Katya became Canadian champion at the young age of 16 but quickly found out that her passion and calling was in the entertainment industry. Throughout her career she has danced with, and taught, an array of famous actors, singers and dancers incl. Antonio Banderas, Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez and many more. She was part of the cast of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing With The Stars) and after this produced and starred in her own tour production performing in over 80 theatres across The UK. A mother of 2 boys Katya conceived the idea for BallroomBees while looking for dance lasses for her son.
Katya’s career in the entertainment business started very early. Moving from Lithuania to Israel at the age of 6 she became a child star there appearing in TV and commercials at an early age.
Moving to Vancouver at age 13, she saw a ballroom dance competition on TV and fell in love with the style. She asked her mom to take her to her first class. This led to her becoming the youngest Canadian National Champion at the age of 16.
One day, while training in a studio in New York, she noticed an audition for a film next door, and her coach encouraged her to “just try”. She ended up booking the job - stumbling into a new career. This led to her working with incredible actors such as Antonio Banderas, Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez as a dancer and choreographer for the Hollywood films "Take The Lead" and "Shall We Dance".
In 2007 Katya was invited to work with the incredible Bollywood choreographer Shaimak Davar to star in his show “I Believe”. She spent an entire year travelling India and teaching in all major cities. She returned to Canada and decided to start her own dance school, but when the BBC asked her to become a professional on “Strictly Come Dancing”, it was an opportunity she could not refuse. After 3 years on the show, Katya produced her own show and toured the UK, performing in over 300 shows! During this time she also choreographed for the hit TV show “So You Think You Can Dance”
After the birth of her first son and moving with her family to Hong Kong, Katya has truly found her calling. Though BallroomBees, Katya found a way to empower children through the medium of Ballroom Dancing
